Town Hall Area and Market Square
The town hall area, covering approximately 9,000 m², currently comprises the town hall, the municipal utilities building, a parking garage, and a mixed-use residential and commercial building. The latter houses a branch of the textile retail company Ernsting’s Family as a tenant. The area is designated for public use.
The market square is the heart of Eitorf, surrounded by numerous shops for everyday needs as well as a variety of dining options. It also regularly hosts markets and other events. In addition, the market square provides important parking facilities for customers of the surrounding businesses.
New Perspectives for the Town Hall Area and Market Square
The town hall, the municipal utilities building, and the parking garage are in a structurally deteriorated condition. Furthermore, the office spaces are no longer sufficient or up to modern standards. A new perspective for the site could be its development into so-called “market arcades.”
To this end, the municipality has already acquired the residential and commercial building located to the left of the town hall. Investors are required for the implementation of this project. In addition to the integration of a full-range supermarket, a drugstore, serviced apartments, and the construction of a new parking garage are conceivable. In particular, there is a need for assisted living and serviced housing. The town hall itself could be integrated into a new building at its current location.
The market square already has a concrete development perspective, which will become visible to the public with the start of redevelopment and redesign work in early 2026. Once completed, both the quality of stay and the attractiveness of the area will be significantly enhanced.
As part of the urban development framework concept, suitable ideas and future use concepts for the town hall area are being developed with the involvement of local businesses and the public.
